Dear Sudeten Creche news letter subscriber, Anna Logue Well, by now we were hoping to announce the dates for the releases we have been promising for so long but all we can say for sure is that the Anna 012 release is the closest to being ready in January or February 2008. The 7" single will be limited to 400 copies only and will contain versions of 'Wounds' and 'Glorious Treason' that will not be released anywhere else plus the track 'Rogues' which is unique to this single and Anna Logue Records. The single will contain a numbered lyric sheet as well as a sign photograph. Minimal Wave Our Minimal Wave re-release of 'Are kisses out of fashion?' 'Dance, 'Asylums' and 'Kindergarten' is also looking like it might be out in February 2008. The tracks on the 12" EP use the original masters for the EP 's 'Europe in the Year Zero' and 'Kindergarten' with the exception of Kindergarten which will be a previously unreleased version that was on the lost 'Kindergarten' master. This EP will be limited to 500 copies in this pressing. A kiss from the Creche The long awaited release of the CD 'A kiss from the Creche' has also been delayed due to the arrival of a new family member called Abigail. Plans are being made to finalize the CD in January or February 2008. History It has been brought to our attention that there are some facts regarding the history of the 'Europe in the Year Zero' EP that are generally unknown. The original concept of the EP was a 'Benefit' EP with all proceeds going to the anti cold war organization called 'No Nukes' see http://www.nonukes.org , a similar organization to CND but possibly less well known. It was this 'not for profit' motive that brought Yvette Döll (S.Phonograph), Michael White (Colour Me Pop), Vince Clarke (Yazoo) and Sudeten Creche together. There is still some debate about whose idea it was, which will remain shrouded in the mists of time, but what is certain is that Michael White knew Vince Clarke having supported Depeche Mode a few times before they broke into the charts and Yvette Döll also had links with Mute and Sonnet. So between the two of them the idea grew legs. The Yazoo track 'Good bye '70's' was taken from the as yet unreleased 'Upstairs at Eric's' album and because Yazoo's management did not want to impact the sales of the forthcoming album 'Upstairs at Eric's', 'Europe in the Year Zero' was contractually limited 10,000 or 12,000 copies. These sold very quickly, fast enough to make number 7 in the Alternative charts and entering the BBC charts on 21st August 1982 for two weeks peaking at number 46. Due to the contractual limit once the copies were sold no more could be pressed so the EP disappeared out of the charts as fast as it appeared. It is though the pressing plant did over produce and as many as 15,000 copies were pressed. All the profits from the EP were given to No Nukes. Yvette Döll went on to release many records over the next ten years under he S/Phonograph, American Phonograph, Intrigue and Saderal Labels. The Illuminated label had very close connections with Yvette and it is thought a number of releases are his due to the special relationship that existed between Yvette and Illuminated. All these labels include many artists like D.A.F., Hawkwind, Dormannu, Throbbing Gristle, Sex Gang Children, Portion Control who were released through labels connected to Yvette Doll. These days he works in Human Rights helping those who need help fighting the establishment. Michael White and Jan Cousin's of Colour Me Pop joined the Thompson Twins and went on tour in the USA, the details of which can be read about in his book which covers 1979 to 1983, called 'Thompson Twin: An 80's memoir'. Jan became a schoolteacher and Mike is now a best selling international author. Yazoo's success went form strength to strength becoming a seminal Electro-synth Duo with a string of hits with Vince Clarke also forming Erasure with Andy Bell. We must also mention that over the years Sudeten Creche has had other members and associates. These include Dave Colton who was the sound engineer for our first two EP's and who still plays in bands like the Destructors. Tim Wharton played bass on Kindergarten and was part of the 1983 line-up that supported Nico on her tour, as was Baz Voce, who also joined in 1983. We would also like to thank Aime De Chevalier, Martin Lloyd, Matthias Schuster, Trautonia Capra and Mark Burghgraeve for a very pleasant evening in Belgium. We wish you all a very happy Christmas and a great new year for 2008. |
